“Creating Service Magic” A Concierge Training Seminar by Michael Romei was recently held at The Four Seasons Hotel Bahrain Bay, Manama, Bahrain on Monday, April 18th 2016.  Approximately 50 hotel colleagues attended the seminar including Hotel Concierges and Hospitality Industry Professionals.  We were honoured by the attendance of HE Sheikh Khaled Bin Humood Al Klalifa, Mr. Greg Pirkle, General Manager of The Four Seasons Hotel Bahrain Bay who opened the Seminar with a most inspirational welcome address.  The Seminar was hosted and organized by Mr. Khalil Al Yaman, President of Bahrain Hotels Concierge Group, and Chef Concierge, Four Seasons Hotel Bahrain Bay.  The Bahrain Hotels Concierge Group is affiliated to Les Clefs d’Or UAE.   Michael Romei, Former General Secretary, Les Clefs d’Or International and Chef Concierge of The Waldorf Astoria and Towers of The Waldorf Astoria New York City conducted the Concierge Training Seminar entitled “Creating Service Magic.”   The Seminar which is approximately 5 Hours in duration covers a wide range of topics such as:  The History of The Concierge Profession, The Dynamics of Les Clefs d’Or, The Definition and Philosophy of Service, Attention to Detail, Verbal and Written Communication, Telephone Etiquette, The Perfect Handshake, Les Clefs d’Or Values, Oath Creed and Membership Requirements, among many other topics discussed.

63rd Les Clefs d’Or International Dubai Congress: Our Host Hotel; The JW Marriott Marquis Dubai


Our 63rd Les Clefs d’Or International Dubai Congress Host Hotel is the award winning Five Star JW Marriott Marquis Dubai.  The Tallest Hotel in the World with 1,600 luxurious views spanning up to 72 floors of spectacular views and scenery of the Dubai skyline.


Our Congress Host, Abey Sam who is President of Les Clefs d’Or UAE is also Chef Concierge of the JW Marriott Marquis Dubai.  Our Congress delegates are treated to 5 Star attentive service together with luxurious accommodations and spectacular views from all rooms.   The Hotel is virtually a city unto itself with numerous restaurants, event and meeting space, a luxurious Spa, a beautiful garden Pool terrace, among other fine amenities throughout.

Our 63rd UICH Les Clefs d’Or International Congress in spectacular Dubai is well under way.  More than 750 delegate members traveled from far and wide across the Globe to the exciting destination of Dubai; a vibrant port city known to be a gateway to the world and one of the most important and popular travel destinations in the world.   Our Les Clefs d’Or concierge members and guests will spend the next several days sharing their talents and expertise, attending our Board or Directors Meeting, General Assembly Meeting as well as a full educational program and forum for further development and training.  At the same time they will experience the best that Dubai has to offer.  According to our Les Clefs d’Or International President Colin Toomey; this is probably the largest gathering of Concierge Members ever in the history of Les Clefs d’Or.



We wish to thank our host Les Clefs d’Or UAE, President Abey Sam, and the entire Les Clefs d’Or UAE Executive Committee as well as their Dubai Congress Organizing Committee for their tireless efforts and keen organization to produce such a tremendous Congress of such magnitude.

All of our approximately 750 Les Clefs d’Or member delegates not only received VIP Marhaba Services at Dubai International Airport but also a very grand VIP welcome at our Host Hotel: The JW Marriott Marquis Dubai, home of our host and President of Les Clefs d’Or UAE, Abey Sam who is Chef Concierge.



Formation of Concierge Association of Sri Lanka

On 27th February, 2016, Edwin Saldanha, Asian Zone Director travelled to Colombo, Sri Lanka to form the local association. His stay was sponsored by The Kingsbury Hotel.  Edwin spent the 1st day in Colombo by visiting the hotels and he met the General Managers and the local concierges in their respective hotels. This was done to understand the support of the management to the concierge and gain first-hand information about the Concierge desks and their working styles. In his report to UICH President, Edwin mentioned that how happy and satisfied he is about the support and encouragement of the management to the local concierges. The Galle Face hotel has sponsored their Chef Concierge Mr. Duminda Boteju to attend the upcoming International Congress in Dubai.


Day two: Edwin met the local Concierges of Colombo and spent the afternoon with them by discussing the local challenges and importance concierges coming together working as group. He also shared the Presentation of UICH and spoke about the rich history of our organisation and shared the functioning of the local association.

In the evening The Kingsbury Hotel has organised the networking evening combined with pinning of their Chef Concierge Mr. Priyantha Kumara. This ceremony was attended by the local General Managers and all the department heads of the hotel. Priyantha will be the third Les Clefs d’Or member from Sri Lanka.


During the meeting Office bearers of the local association were nominated for the period of two years.

Concierge association of Sri Lanka will continue enrolling new members, educating local star hotels about Clefs d’Or and planning projects ahead. Edwin Thanked the Hotel management for their support and active participation in the ceremony.


Roderick Asahan: Pinning Ceremony

The Bahrain Hotels Concierge Group and the Les Clefs d’Or UAE chapter are proud to present Bahrain’s second Les Clefs d’Or member. Roderick Asahan joined InterContinental Regency Bahrain on October 25th, 2005. Prior to that he was with the InterContinental in Doha, Qatar for three years.

Roderick received his first Les Clefs in September of 2014. He has a passion for Concierge because he simply loves creating memorable experiences for others. To Roderick, his job is about presentation and results; all in order to bring a smile to his guests’ faces. He also loves a good challenge, which is naturally an every day occurrence for hoteliers!


The pinning was conducted according to the tradition of the Les Clefs d’Or – by the President, Abey Sam, and Roderick’s General Area Manager, Mr. Jan Ifcic. Also joining to congratulate Roderick are Mr. Mohammed Mahmoud (Director of Rooms) and Mr. Mohammed Sanad (Hotel Manager).

We asked Khalil Al Yaman, President of the Bahrain Concierge Group and Chief Concierge of the Four Seasons Hotel Bahrain what he felt about Roderick’s grand milestone: To be successful, the first thing to do is fall in love with your work – words of Sister Mary Lauretta. “This is simply what describes Roderick; sedulous, efficient, and committed. This is what our Bahrain Hotels Concierge Group members and myself had in mind when we elected him as our First Vice President.”

2016 Bahrain Hotels Concierge Group Elections

Bahrain may be a small island but that is what differentiates our concierge family. Made up of members from the most elite hotels in the country, we are constantly supporting each other under the strong belief that “my guest today is your guest tomorrow, and vice versa”.

Tuesday, February 9th, 2016 marked the elections for the 2016-2018 term for the Bahrain Hotels Concierge Group, under the UAE Les Clefs d’Ors chapter. Hosted by the magnifque Sofitel Bahrain Zallaq Thalassa Sea & Spa, the new executive committee was elected.

We would like to congratulate our re-elected President, Khalil Al Yaman, Chief Concierge at the Four Seasons Bahrain, along with Roderick Asahan, now First Vice President, Chief Concierge at the InterContinental Regency Bahrain and Mark Nadonza, Chief Concierge at the Ritz Carlton Bahrain, Assistant Secretary General of the Bahrain Hotels Concierge Group.

Newly appointed members of the executive committee are Muzammil Parkar, Chief Concierge at the K Hotel Bahrain as Secretary General, and Mary Tawadros, Assistant Chief Concierge at the Sofitel Bahrain Zallaq Thalassa Sea & Spa, as Public Relations Officer.

Together with our growing members, we hope to accomplish even more throughout the next term. Firstly, in service through friendship, in promoting our hotels and Bahrain, and in creating memorable experiences for our guests.

Les Clefs d’Or GB Concierge Educational Day

On Thursday 21st January 2016 a Concierge Educational Day was held at the Marylebone Hotel, London. There was 24 concierges whom attended, and 11 guest speakers who spoke about the Society of the Golden Keys Great Britain and the Commonwealth, UICH, applying for membership the associate members, digital technology and the future of the concierge as a profession and the associate members and there relationship with the Society of the Golden Keys.

The concierge Educational Day was organised and hosted by Riyas Kallan Andre Damonte Award Winner 2015.
